the first seven days
(i will endeavor to be more detailed in my entries 'cause some of my past entries don't make sense to me anymore and it feels like i've lost something that i might never quite recover)
wmp: black eyed peas, meet me half ways thursday - astro paper, the last of the papers. i was bursting with joy at the end of it though the people around me didn't quite feel the same. i am keeping my fingers crossed especially for the aa203 paper (God knows what the heck i was doing). after pondering our next move for awhile, we canceled the trip down to the sitex and leo zy & i had dinner at olive & fig. the wait was long. the kebabs were big on the portions. a tad too much garlic on the pasta, but i liked it anyway. friday - t'was the morning run with jn. its a long while since i last ran. two rounds round the campus. i ran of out gas somewhere near the 10km mark. we had breakfast at the hall two canteen. after a nap at home i ran out again to grab my new phone. the SE w705 had dropped to $0. the timing was oh so fine and i didn't have much second thoughts about it. i was in fact quite pleased after toying with it... i had a couple of episodes of everybody loves raymond before i headed to bed. its nice, to have a few laughs before dozing off and i've been doing it almost every night. saturday - at 630am i reached toa payoh and met leo & his friends. we hopped on the coach and made our way across the causeway. we spent a fair bit of time travelling on the coach and i napped whenver i could. t'was the kota tinggi falls which wasn't much of a sight. we didn't even bother to get ourselves wet. the seafood lunch and dinner weren't top notch either. t'was much to diss about. somethings were so atrocious that its almost hilarious. of all the stopovers, the ostrich farm was an eye-opener. the ostrich egg, the ostrich chicks, the ostrich satays,... the ostriches that roamed around were so calm, gentle and at ease with us humans around that its almost sad to know that at some point of time they'll all eventually end up at the slaughterhouse... sunday - beach with gess mates. i dumped my guitar in the latio before driving out. i got the sun burns even with the sunblock. honestly, the beach has somewhat lost its appeal. maybe i'm just getting lazy cause i had thought the best thing that could have happened then was not a good game of volleyball but a nice hammock. i wonder if i'll find the motivation to head back to the gym this month. showering at one degree fifteen has always been something of a sumptuous life, thanks to jo. we eventually found ourselves at the red dot at dempsey hill. with a glass of green beer each. and dish after dish of glorious food. at the end of the night i made my way to leo's place where he checked on my trashy guitar. i can't wait for the new strings to arrive. monday - i accompanied a friend to the dentist for a tooth extraction. did a check up while i was there. it seems like i've got some extracting to do myself but i'm rather reluctant to do it during this holidays (hmmm). i got back home for a quick nap before running off again to tabita's new place off the west coast. it was nostalgic driving around the area having lived there before myself. i didn't do much while the gang had their go at tennis, table tennis and pool. i really am getting lazy. some of us parted and the small bunch of us(marc, melo, leo & myself) had dinner at karu's curry, before finally heading back home after being unable to settle down for a night of poker. tuesday - the run with jn & ky from the macrichie reservoir to the bukit timah nature reserve wednesday - i woke up and rushed down to the cathay to meet leo & zy. we caught 2012. not too bad a film. i'm quite keen still on renting the bunch of dvds of films i've yet to catch because of the tight semester. cw joined us after the show for a little while before we went on our own ways. i met up with the rest of the casper gang at chinatown for steamboat. it was quite a feast. zouk was tiring business. the casual chat with j over supper was depressing. thursday - i woke up at around noon before heading down to the nlb at bugis where ky, jn & jo were. they were busy looking up for recipes for a good time in the kitchen come next week. we wandered around a bit for some food around the area before ky jn and myself headed down to the expo to collect our race packs for the coming standard charter marathon. friday - rest. i hand washed the merc 200e & the nissan latio. i had dinner at imm with alvin, hj & kk. my ankle hurts so i wonder how the marathon will turn out... with regards to 'other matters', i guess i shouldn't be as hopeful. ribeyes and vodka
i never had so much ribeye in one sitting. i was told of how cows that were bred in factories never got to see the light of day and were hung alive upside down when their days are finally numbered. a blade systematically runs down their necks and blood gushes out till the very last breath they take. it hardly is surprising and for that reason i kinda hate the thought of it. i feel like going vegetarian.
i met up with the gess gang once more with bottles of liquor and a couple of decks of cards. honestly i wonder if there exists another group of friends who play like this too. making it home in soggy pants in the morning was strangely a little bit of a deja vu. there is 47 days now left. the dreadful semester is not too faraway. scrubs is an awesome drama comedy series. i'm rewatching episodes and still get goosebumps at the end of certain episodes. such as s05e20. whats more i just realised that coffeebucks, something i say sometimes when i try to refer to starbucks, is an actually coffee joint in the show. unreal.

beach 21
wmp: stars down, monster
lately, there are perhaps only three things that can give me a certain feeling of high - a good game of beach volleyball under fine weather, poker cards under the sleight of hand, and her.

for all the good times
last evening, the every evening that brother sj attained class 3, we had a gala time at adam rd's hawker. he was at my place that evening too and while on the computer, said he found the lack of pictures on my blog very disturbing.
after this weird dream of people telling me how ugly my spectacles look, i finally woke up at noon. and while my stomach tries to eat itself for the past hour, i decided to take a break from the usual mediocre metaphors, one liners, abstract, ambiguous blogging, and go through my archives, and upload the heck load of photos, for all the good times. its been quite a ride since ord... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() till next time. :) jorn was alive and kickin' at 12:24:00 PM 0 comments

felix's 21st
at midnight we shook his hand and wished him all over. to be offically 21. i wonder what that truly means. another milestone? or just another year?
in the end, there were only seven of us. in the bedroom. singing sappy love songs. m2m. bsb. playing cards. taunting each other. trying hard not to lose. 'cause when you pass a certain point, the drinks just become hard to stomach. and it really was. for one of us at least. haha. "sing another luuuuuuurrrrve song..." 'like birds being strangled', i quote someone ;) i can't think of a better way to describe us. haha. i guess, the million dollar question is... "for who?" at half past five in the morning i got lift home which was swell. i had a good time. they say life is all about the memories you collect. that night was definitely another one of those pieces. till next time!

april (2 months since)
it's been about a month and a half since ord. i've finished most of the things i've started long ago and tidied up my room good. there had been a couple of good parties. and by the end of this week, it would already be approx 250 hours of hanging out at the library....
the past week had been tiring. the nights have a way of stretching themselves making the morning especially hard to pull through. i came back home last friday night relieved that t'was a weekend ahead to finally have a full eight hours of blissful sleep but one thing kinda led to another and the weekend was long gone. that friday night, after turning down a night of poker, i stayed up late in my sister's room hammering keys from the score sheet of 'memories of lightwaves' on her keyboard. i should say it was a start. the next morning t'was a couple of games of volleyball at jjc which kinda wore me down. they were more exhausting than i had remembered, running for the quick balls that i never really knew how to. after a three hour nap at home i took a train down to felix place where the three of us nuts sweated it out on the basketball court. in between the games i laid on the floor gasping like some fish. i had the small victory etched in my mind since but that was it for me after that. we had supper at chinatown, a very restless night on bed and then a full day at the beach on sunday. the night at one degree fifteen was most reposeful except for the lack of breeze perhaps and the absolute fatigue. it was the first time i gambled with peanuts & peas. i woke up on monday morning feeling the terrible aches on the legs, backs, shoulders even but without the sunburns(sunscreen!). while brushing my teeth my mum barged in and very apologetically told me to call off the bangkok trip. i didn't know what else to say, maybe except that i didn't feel like going anywhere too anyway. sometimes we wait, and we wait for so long for something to happen that when it finally does, it isn't half as exciting as it was from the start anymore... on tuesday, three of us samuel, hf and myself went down to ntu. i thought it was funny. a couple of years back it was the same three of us too, in the same og back in college. i'm pretty exciting about this upcoming phase. life in the library has been pretty swell in a way. though sometimes i wish it was more happening, there are even more times that i feel it can't get any better than this. the surroundings would make a nice study haunt if i actually lived nearby. somewhere along the month i was asked to take a couple of photographs. i seem to have an immense amount of time to myself everywhere i've been(from ns to work here), even though i seem to be misusing it each time. like watching comedy after comedy and running through online manga for three straight days... 'nuff said.

cloudscapes
wmp: lostprophets, 4am forever
it was a short dash across the three, maybe four, lane road because i wasn't as punctual as i'd like to have been and then i felt the breathlessness kick in. i wonder what happened man. i liked horton. fcukin' hilarious. and so after a stout, a walk down to felix's place, a drive out to mcdonalds, some five hour restless sleep and a day at bugis, i finally made it back to home sweet home. looks like a storm is coming. maybe its really more difficult than it looks but i think i've spent too much time reading and its finally time to get down to it no matter what my parents think i can't do. jorn was alive and kickin' at 4:20:00 PM 0 comments

ord loh! pt 2
wmp: tokyo police club, in a cave
kick started the day with an indie song and a group chat on msn(two ord personnel, two nsf, and, of course the lady in aussieland). t'was some small talk on reviving an irc channel. i imagined myself taking on the alias 'Bravo' all over. very nostalgic. at lunch hour i made a little trip back to maju camp just to meet up with some of the guys. could't help but feel good mingling with them in the sort of peace only an ord personnel will know. card sessions ahead sounded good. tomorrow will be a working day yet again. since the ord. it was fun while it lasted.

four guys, a basketball & a bottle of whiskey
wmp: funeral for a friend, hours
it was a grueling drive down to the airport. and such a chore to park the vehicle. with the car, its been only enjoyable cruising down a 3am clear road. we had a sumptuous one at popeyes. i thought the bolster abuse was hilarious. and then we saw huimin left for the second time. eventually, t'were four of us, midnight at the basketball court fumbling with the ball, and the realisation of my lack of stamina. we took a dip in the pool before heading out for supper and then back to my place where we briefly touched on the bottle of chivas. drinks are optional, but i kinda like spending late nights with the people i've had a memorable history with. we tend to talk abt the past, and things we never knew happened. so comes the end of this week. i wonder whats gonna follow. come monday i'm gonna make a couple of calls and see what comes out of 'em. the rest of the days will be spent at home tying up some of the loose ends of my life. i could finish my model kit for good even though the level of satisfaction of it being completed will be slightly lower now that i had clumsily sealed my fingerprints with a layer of top coat. i could tidy up my room, continue throwing the piles of lecture notes everywhere before burning them away. i could go to the gym, for a swim, roller blading even. lotsa nights out having supper. and if i get lucky, we get to go to the beach at the end of the week. at the end of it all, i'm just waiting for something to happen. haha, dad's right. jorn was alive and kickin' at 7:05:00 PM 0 comments

february (ord loh!)
wmp: how six songs collide, norwegian recycling
i've been trying to recollect on how i've spend the last two weeks ever since i've orded - it feels like yesterday actually - and do a day by day entry but everything seems to be one big blur. ![]() so, in nutshell, t'was the chinese new year at my grandmother's place for a couple of nights of blackjack, and then we were at cs's birthday surprise came monday night(i can only imagine how he stepped into his bedroom of a bunch of us), kuishin bo on valentines day(hungry people obliterating snow crabs, lol) and, of course, raffles town club with the entire gessvball gang. aka the inebriates(see bottom left). for most of the week i saw felix & huimin, probably the two most free people in the world. haha. ![]() t'was some afternoon i caught 'ah long' with sj & felix at marina sq. and then as we were looking around at springfield, we heard a good mix of songs. two weeks of searching and last night i finally found the guy churning those mash ups out. norwegian recycling. very neat stuff he's got. cjseven was pretty hilarious but just alrite on the whole. i watched 'meet the spartans' on tvshack. not exactly something i'd go to the movies for but entertaining still. 'jumper' was cool. but i still wanna be superman. i'm glad my model kit is finally taking shape after 6546876138318 days(since the alevels). what a waste of time and money. i can't wait to be done with it for good. for the past week i've been kinda comfortable going to bed at 4am in the morning until i had to head down to the beach last saturday morning. quite a drag to reset the alarm an hour after an hour. they say its better to wake up in the early morning and i thought i'd like that too though i don't really know how now. besides, i enjoy the peace in the night. i'm really lookin' forward to something but i can't exactly put my finger on it... kw's 21st
wmp: lifehouse, better luck next time
it was another good night of fun and booze. i didn't think i'd last but at some 4am when the last bunch of people went off after a couple of rounds of texas poker and beer, i was the only soul left awake, slouched on the sofa rifling the deck of cards wishing t'was accompaniment yet again. ![]() so much for the iron livers... hahahaha i waited it out for the first train, onboard which i thought i could just lie down throughout the journey but it was suprisingly crowded and then i realised there were probably people out there doing their night shifts and those who were returning home from a night like ours. it was a half lit 7am sky i walked beneath before reaching my doorstep. jorn was alive and kickin' at 10:23:00 PM 0 comments

directions and screaming girls
wmp: everclear, wonderful
my first parallel parking since attaining my license became something to really laugh about. i tried to retrace my steps in the afternoon lookin' at the street directory, of how i made it to chomp chomp/ice³, cineleisure and then back home but i couldn't recall much. life would be so much better if i knew my way around. for one the car wouldnt be changing lanes back and forth while everybody scream for their lives. i thought the golden compass was fucked up though it had rather cool ideas. along with everclear's wonderful, rise against' everchanging, and anything blink, this too is perhaps one of my all time favourite songs maybe because it reminds of me of a certain phase of my life. check out the 'electric' version too! jorn was alive and kickin' at 11:16:00 PM 0 comments

my affirmation
wmp: sum 41, with me
![]() Not in picture: Lee Khong Wee(Safti MI), Choo Huimin(Australia, Canberra), Jack club & Jack Spade. i haven't much to say really about the weekend. i guess sometimes when you wait so hard for something to come by it doesn't seem nearly as rewarding as it could have been. last friday night i made my way to holland village after a short but well deserved nap to meet up with the rest of the vball gang. the erdinger went well with the company at harry's but when they decided to called it an end to the night i felt again that t'was something still amiss. like an agenda unfulfilled. i must have been too intoxicated perhaps but i eventually walked it off before hailing a cab. i look forward still to such gatherings, hoping something more will happen for all of us someday even though i'm not exactly sure what i'm talking about. it was near three in the morning as i walked pass my brother's room when i got home. i could almost see pass the closed door; he would have been there at his computer clickin' his friggin' mouse like a mad man and wouldn't careless even if i were to open the door and step in and dance around him. i can't remember when all of us started shutting our doors. i skipped a shower. apart from a couple of episodes of my name is earl, i slept most of the saturday away. the day at the beach on sunday got off to a bad start with bad weather but the 2 on 2 games more than made up for it in the end. the partnership with fe was supreme. i made an early move for a quick shower and rushed to jj's place where i made it in time for the second half of arsenals match against sunderland. it sounds unlike me but for the first time, i actually jumped out of seat a couple of times in agony whenever some footballer makes a blunder and probably remaining oblivious still to the difference the one more goal would have made to the value of a ticket. the take away for the night? it ain't always about having faith... i got home dropped my bag, and told myself i would laugh the entire lousy week away, start the next day with a smile, even though i'm not quite good at that, and just get over the day, and then the week itself... it's been good as far as for now... turns out it's quite an entry actually. i guess i got carried away. lol. ciao. the pitstop
wmp: third eye blind, farther
this month i've splurged a good portion of my pay of which a good 160 bucks went to a pair of skates, and a couple of bucks more on a marvel graphic novel and two other books on a new found hobby of coins & cards. since then i've lost the urge to draw out the notes so readily again especially after that pair of skates that i'm not sure i even have the time for (or so it seems for now)... on the eve of the course i caught bourne ultimatum with my brother. i was glad my brother, who sacrificed a study night, had thought the trip down and the film was all worth it. during the last two weeks a bunch of us had two stayovers in the office due to late nights the course extended into. it wasn't so bad or at least better than just rushing home, touch the door, and be back the next morning. on the second stayover we watched saw iii, something i thought i would nv do because of the gore but i did nevertheless, for the storyline sake. it was close to three in the morning when we decided to slip into our sleeping bags. i was glad to have left mine around for the past few months. i stayed up on saturday night finishing the graphic novel, earth x, at some 4am. and then it was another day at the beach on sunday. the weather almost crossed the line that would have ruined what's left of the day. we played a couple of pairs. i haven't ran so frantically after a ball in awhile. i hoped no one saw us play mini vball. we finally decided to head to the 'pit stop' after standing around for quite awhile after dinner and the quick trip to the evil 'candy empire'. i don't know how but i blurted out 'coffeebucks' for the second time. the 'ticket to ride' proved to be interesting board game, yet frustrating at some point of time or another. the moment of truth came when we finally counted our final scores that left fh basking in her victory. ugly ugly ugly wasn't much of fun, at least for me, for obvious reasons. when it was finally time to head home felix & i made a quick tour around 'central' before we went our seperate ways. i boarded the train along with the throngs of fellow commuters, feeling the sore of a bad right knee, popping gummi bears all the way... monday morning came. as i walked out of the back gate to the train station, thoughts of the night before continued to linger...

gessvball/go5 cny reunion dinner
lately i've been able to sleep right through into the afternoons without being bothered by the morning glare because of the new curtains i've put up. i was explaining to the sales lady at ikea that i was looking for curtains tt cld shut out light completely unlike my previous ones and she mentioned 'black out' curtains and i knew at the sound of that t'was what i was looking for.
and i was right. superb. - my doctors appointment with regards to my knee didn't go too well. the memo to the camp's MO had got nothing abt patella chondromalacia which the last doctor had diagnosed during the last visit. along with the memo was a MRI report which showed everything to be normal. another review was scheduled in 3 mths time. they seem to have ran out of ideas while the problem remains evident only to me. truely fucked up. - so the go5 met up again last saturday going around home visiting. we lost track of time along the way and eventually gave the last stop a miss to meet up with the girls at holland v in the late evening. we proceeded to essential brews where we spend most of the night playing cards. towards the end i cldnt quite keep up and the late nights i've had were proving to be too much. after walking out of the cafe half the group went off leaving just joce, cs, kw and i in the end to ponder our next move. we went over to my place first after i made a call to my dad to use the car just for a short drive out for supper. it was strange of him to agree so readily even when i told him we were making a trip to joce's place too. the initial plan was to go for supper, make a trip to joce's place, and then head back for a swim at my place but after having seen a full house at the prata shop we brought supper to joce house instead after dropping my brother back home. we had some chat before leaving just before dawn broke and made it back after a drive on wondrously clear roads. back at in my room i had to whip out that fuckin' deck of cards and suggest blackjack. i was on the losing end and what was meant to be the last round became the last 3 and then it could have gone on forever. i laid on the bed crying out loud in misery while they ignore me and the nonsense mantra i was chanting. i felt like dieing but the thing was i couldn't quite die. in the afternoon after they left and a short nap i took, i began browsing through the downloaded contents of cs's hard drive and i came across 'the longest yard' which i had wanted to watched in the past. the film followed a somewhat predictable storyline but it was worth the watch still really. my family and i went over to my uncle's place in the evening. after dinner my mum saw how lethargic i looked and we decided to make an early move. besides, cards later in the night would really have turned me off after my last tragic experience which left me most depressed. i slept especially early that night. monday morning came, i woke up feeling really concussed. dragged myself to the office. jorn was alive and kickin' at 4:01:00 PM 0 comments |
